V/Line 2014
As my latest V/line review 2014
V/Line is the largest public transport for regional Victoria, Australia areas such as Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Gippsland etc.
In the past two years, Victorian's public transport system has been changed, myki card (IC card) replaced paper ticket (except long distance), extra rail services are provided for V/Line services, and new platforms were made.
V/Line also have Coach (Bus) services especially for long distance, they currently have service to outside of Victoria in addition with Albury such as Canberra, Adelaide and South Coast NSW.
At this time, I am going to share with you the latest happening in VLINE services around your areas.
1. All passengers must have myki card before your travel.
As you know, V/Line tickets are replaced by myki card during 2013 which means no paper tickets are issued anymore, but it is easy, you are able to get and top up (charge) myki card at stations, 7-eleven and shops, of course you are able to top up by online (credit card only).
Therefore you are able to travel through between V/Line stations and Metro Trains stations (e.g. from Geelong to Brighton Beach etc.).
Here is the link
V/Line Network Map
The map explained bold purple line is myki only area as you must have it before your travel.
But some of services (especially long distance), you need to reserve a seat before your travel, you can make a reservation at ticketing office at no extra cost for Economy class.

And authorized public transport inspectors are on any V/Line services constantly to check your valid myki and paper ticket otherwise you get a fine $217, but if you did not have valid myki in the Metropolitan public transport, you will get fine '$75 penalty as 'on the spot' otherwise $217.
"More Ticket checks! More Often!"
However paper tickets are still available if you are travelling to long distance areas (Inter City) such as The Great Ocean Road (Torquay and Apolo Bay), Warrnambool, Ararat, Adelaide, Mildura, Swan Hill, Shepparton, Albury, Canberra, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance etc.
2. Pakenham Metro Station
Actually you are able to "get on and get off" any V/Line trains (except special trains) so you are able to catch both Metro Trains and Vine trains to City.
Gippsland Line Timetable (current)
3. Flinders Street Metro Station
Normally, VLINE Services will depart at Southern Cross station but Flinders Street station will be also stopped for Gippsland services and one service terminates at Flinders Street then return to Traralgon (Morning peak only).
Please see the link of Gippsland Line timetable also (section 2)
4. Not stop at North Melbourne Station except Seymour and Shepparton Services!
Due to the introduction of the Regional Rail Link in the west no trains stop at North Melbourne, except Seymour and Shepparton services (weekdays only). All trains will however stop at Footscray and other suburbs on their way into the country. People wanting to go to North Melbourne should get off at Footscray and catch a Metro train at no extra cost.
This then frees up all the metro trains
5.Quiet Carriage is provided
It is currently available in Velocity class (3 carriages)

Over all, People in Melbourne, Australia must understand rules, customs in public transport before your travel. even people are new in Melbourne, The fare must be reduced, and more train services and extra seats are provided for more passengers are coming to take V/Line.
